Every brand has a story, but not every story is a revival. Some stories are about reclaiming a lost legacy. Jackets Capitals’s history is a story of more than just a leather goods company. It is a revival of the lost legacy that has been passed down from generation to generation. A family legacy dating back to the 1920s in the heart of Kanpur, India. It is the story of passion, perseverance, and deep respect for our forefather’s craftsmanship.
It all started with our grandfather, who used to tell us stories about our family’s successful leather business venture in Kanpur, once called the “Leather City of India” and “Manchester of the East.” At its peak, our family’s business is said to have employed over 70 skilled artisans who were creating leather jackets, shoes, and accessories. It was such quality work that they earned a reputation that would stretch beyond the borders of India, exporting leather goods from Europe to Africa and the Americas.
Tragedy came in the form of a civil war that tore India apart, leaving the country scarred and disrupting industries like ours. It reduced the business to ruins, erasing a generation’s legacy of craftsmanship. Our grandfather took that pain with him his whole life. He found work to support his family, but those other jobs never healed his loss of what was once his birthright. It was such a heavy loss and felt it also as we grew on his stories.
At that young age, we couldn’t grasp how much pain he endured, but something was moving within us. We couldn’t define it. We did not know, but all we felt was an unspoken calling to revive that lost legacy. The stories were not about losing a business but possibilities left unrealized, a dream abandoned. We didn’t fully grasp the loss of our priceless legacy, but we knew it was time to redefine our paths and reconnect with our family’s heritage. So we embarked on the honor of paying homage to our lost memory in this modern world.
In 2005, two cousins took it upon themselves to recreate and rebuild the family business. For 11 years, we were diligent, saving money from our separate jobs, learning leathercraft, and investing in the proper tools and skills for our dreams. Every step of the way was motivated by the dream of one day recreating the artistry that had once made our family’s name synonymous with quality leather goods.
It was on May 9, 2016, after all the years of preparation. We designed our first leather jacket, it was more than a product for us. We truly believed it was a symbol of what our family had lost and what we worked tirelessly to reclaim. As early as August 22, 2016, our first order came in. It was a small step toward something much greater.
In January 2017, we launched Jackets Capital with the start of our online store. We poured our heart and soul into every jacket and ensured that each jacket reflected excellence in its craftsmanship as well as quality. That once defined our family legacy. We aim to create high-quality leather products with an untold story to honor the history of Kanpur’s leather industry and the passion of the artisans who once worked there.
The customer response to Jackets Capital has been exceptional. So far, we sold over 53,000 jackets to various customers all over the world: from the United States and Canada to Germany Australia, and even New Zealand. Each jacket is a tribute to our great forefathers, who combined traditional techniques with modern design. More than just business growth, our venture is about honoring a legacy. It’s about sharing the legacy of resilience, craftsmanship, and legacy with the world.
Today, Jackets Capital stands as a testament to perseverance. We have revived a family legacy that nearly slipped into oblivion, and Every leather jacket symbolizes that even after great loss, revival is possible. Commitment to quality and craftsmanship has helped us build trust as a name in leather goods, but what sets us apart is the story behind every product we make.
